The Advanced Vitreo-Retinal Imaging Lab uses novel imaging and analysis techniques to study retinal structure, vasculature, and blood flow. Our lab focuses on using cutting edge technology to study common retinal diseases with a focus on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Our lab members include certified specialists who are experts in retinal imaging analysis, clinical trialists, biomedical engineers, AI and machine learning experts. The lab collaborates closely with global experts in retinal diseases to enhance our understanding of new treatments and improve patient outcomes.

The BioMac lab is a research lab at the Mood Disorders Research Unit at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), West 5th Campus. Our team is comprised of clinicians, research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and volunteers with affiliations from SJHH and/or McMaster University. Our research lab seeks to further the understanding of the identification, causes, and treatments of mood disorders.

We seek to further define the genetic contribution to kidney disease, translate genetic research into improved care of chronic kidney disease, and educate future clinicians and scientists in genetic cause of kidney disease.

In my lab, we focus on technical aspects of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). More specifically, we develop new MRI hardware, imaging pulse sequences, and software for signal and image processing. We also use artificial intelligence for image/signal classification and to increase the speed of MRI acquisition.

We are a translational research laboratory, affiliated with the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, utilizing measurements of inflammometry for the assessment and management of airway diseases. Our laboratory staff has over 50 years of combined experience in diagnostics, laboratory methods, and clinical trials.

CMAS promotes and supports world-class research into the outcomes and development of new minimal access procedures in both applied and clinical research, promoting innovative surgical techniques and offering support and mentorship to participants.

The overall objective of our Critical Care Clinical Research Group is to understand, prevent, diagnose, monitor, treat or palliate critical illness, thereby improving patient-centered and family-centered outcomes. Our focus is generating original research on acute conditions, processes of care, and consequences of critical illness. The scope of our scientific methods includes randomized trials, observational studies, mixed-methods projects, qualitative research, surveys, audits and quality improvement work. The inter-professional Department of Critical Care Research Operations Group facilitates and coordinates the scholarship of any staff, clinical scholars, clinical associates, or clinicians who are committed to advancing collaborative research in this setting.

The Forensic Psychiatry Program Research Group is comprised of an interdisciplinary team that conducts and supports scholarly and clinical excellence and innovation. Our research is aimed at understanding criminal and aggressive behaviour in mentally disordered populations in order to advance risk assessment, management, and rehabilitation strategies. The group is also dedicated to education for learners and professionals through research collaboration and dissemination, such as the International Forensic Psychiatry Lecture Series, the Annual Risk and Recovery Conference, and our journal,  the International Journal of Risk and Recovery.

Officially established in 2017, GUIDE is an academic group providing methodological support to clinical practice guidelines developers. The group is comprised mostly of critical care physicians and experts in the field of clinical practice guideline development and systematic reviews.

The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) has a strong commitment to evidence-based research to study obesity and bariatric treatment through high-impact studies. Research conducted plays a pivotal role in better understanding obesity, the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery, medical treatment of bariatric patients, and identifying practices and health service areas that require optimization and improvement. Research conducted has been used to inform decision makers and direct policy on the optimal treatment and management of severe obesity to achieve the goal of more efficient patient treatment.

The Rowa/McCabe Group studies anxiety and related disorders from a cognitive behavioural perspective.

The Orthopaedics Research Group at St. Joe's aims to conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary, high-quality clinical trials and research that positively impact patients with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. We conduct research focusing on joint replacement and arthritis, pain management, upper extremity injuries, sports medicine, trauma, and biomechanics.
