The Research Institute of St. Joe’s Hamilton understands the importance of investing in the future of research by providing funding opportunities for research personnel working at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

Interested applicants should review the Awards Program and Affiliation policies (see Related Resources below) prior to submitting an application. Please note that the type of awards and value for any given year will vary as they are dependent upon funding availability.

Applications are reviewed by the Award Review Committee, chaired by the Scientific Director, who also has final decision of the awarding of applicants.


Award Timelines

  • January 1: Official launch of the Project-Based Awards competition
  • January 31: Letter of Intent submission deadline (for Studentship & Post-doctoral fellowship awards only)
  • March 1: Invitation for Full Application submission (for Studentship & Post-doctoral fellowship awards only)
  • April 30: Applications for all Project-Based Awards due by 11:59pm on April 30, 2024
  • July: Award recipients announced

Applications for the 2024 project-based awards opened on January 1, 2024.

  • May 1: Official launch of the Achievement Awards competition
  • July 31: Deadline for Achievement Award nominations
  • November: Award recipients announced at Celebrate Research

Celebrate Research

Be sure to join us at our annual Celebrate Research event, where we will present the recipients of our project-based awards and achievement awards.

 

Project-based Awards

  • $18,000 per annum up to 2 years for Students enrolled in a MSc program; up to 3 years for Students enrolled in a PhD program.
  • Progress report and renewal application at 12 months
  • Final report due upon completion of the award term
  • Guidelines
  • $37,000 per annum up to 2 years
  • Progress report and renewal application at 12 months
  • Final report due upon completion of the award term

  • Up to $10,000 per award (with max $20,000 per cycle for all PAC awards)
  • Final report due upon completion of the award term or within one year of receipt of funding

  • Consists of 5 Awards:
    • Forensic Psychiatry Research Poster Presentation Award ($250)
    • McMaster Psychiatry Resident's Travel Bursary ($500)
    • Forensic Psychiatry Research Award for Trainees ($1000)
    • Forensic Psychiatry Conference Travel Bursary ($1000)
    • SJHH Forensic Psychiatry Program Research Award (internal: $2000; external: $2500)
