Message from Dr. Lehana Thabane, Scientific Director, RSJH:

I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Anil Kapoor on February 28. Our most sincere condolences go to his family during this difficult time.

Dr. Kapoor was known for his innovative research in urologic oncology, his surgery, and notably, his cheerful personality.

At St. Joe’s, Dr. Kapoor served as the director of the Urologic Cancer Centre for Research and Innovation (UCCRI), which was created with two transformational gifts from his grateful patients. He worked closely with our Foundation and the community to secure funds in support of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer research.

As the Genitourinary pillar lead at The Research Institute, Dr. Kapoor led a growing research program, often collaborating with the Kidney and Mental Health & Addiction pillars. He was dedicated to discovery and the bench-to-bedside approach.

In honour of Dr. Kapoor, flags have been lowered to half-mast at all St. Joe’s campuses. Please see here for a message from St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

So much more can be said about the positive impact and legacy of Dr. Anil Kapoor. We remember him as a healer, colleague, and friend.
