For the first time since 2019, The Research Institute held its festive Midsummer Mixer event in the Spiritual Garden of the Charlton Campus. The event, which debuted in 2018 and was held again in 2019, had been cancelled twice since due to the ongoing pandemic.

The purpose of the Midsummer Mixer is to provide a fun break for our community to gather outdoors and enjoy the sunshine while learning about the broad research foci at St. Joe’s.

Thursday’s Midsummer Mixer saw over 650 attendees. The main draw of the event was the complimentary ice cream, ice lollies, and freezies. Combined with the oversized novelty games (Top Doc, Checkers, Ping Pong, Tumble Tower, and 4 in a Row), the event brought crowds of staff members, researchers, learners, patients – broad representation from the St. Joe’s community.

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation was invited to join The Research Institute at the event. The Foundation tent gave attendees the chance to play Plinko and learn more about their funding priorities.

Since the pandemic began, many new staff members have joined St. Joe’s. The Midsummer Mixer gave some of them the opportunity to meet their colleagues in person. Several staff members noted they were meeting colleagues in person for the first time – people they had only met virtually through Zoom or other platforms.

The Research Institute would like to thank St. Joe’s Audio/Visual team for providing the music, PA system, and photography for the event; and Building Services for ensuring there were extra tables and electricity in the Spiritual Garden.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the event and to all those who support Research at St. Joe’s. Your support allows us to thrive in the heart of Hamilton, conducting innovative research that changes lives.
