St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton ranked among the most research-intensive hospitals in the country for 2019, according to statistics published by Research Infosource.

In the medium hospitals category, St. Joe’s moved up two ranks from the previous year, coming in eighth place overall. The Hospital also moved ahead one rank in terms of research spending (as a percentage of total hospital spending), placing in seventh this year.

Overall, St. Joe’s came in at 26 on the list Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals, which includes both large and medium hospitals.

Ontario hospital statistics are based on financial and academic information reported to the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO), taken from the 2018-2019 academic year.

“As a medium-sized academic hospital, these rankings from Research Infosource demonstrate that we are making the most of our resources and rivaling some of Canada’s largest research institutions,” said Dr. Jack Gauldie, Vice President, Research at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. “Our publication output of 1,132 papers in 2018, with several in high-impact journals, is proof that our Hospital is committed to conducting research that changes lives.”

Hamilton has become Canada’s leading health sciences research cluster, driven by a unique culture of collaboration across the City’s academic and healthcare providers. The Research Institute of St. Joe’s is proud to partner with McMaster University, Mohawk College, Hamilton Health Sciences, and a multitude of local health science organizations to expand and enhance research activities at St. Joe’s.
