Dr. Martin Kolb, Research Director of the world-renowned Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health (FIRH) at St. Joe’s, has been elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). Joining the Academy as a Fellow is one of the highest honours a Canadian healthcare researcher can receive, and the St. Joe’s team is immensely proud of Dr. Kolb for this achievement.
Since its inception in 2004, the CAHS has been dedicated to developing and implementing solutions to Canada’s most complex and urgent health challenges. Fellows of the Academy include some of the top-ranked health and biomedical scientists and scholars across Canada, who are an integral part of the Academy’s healthcare advancements.
Dr. Kolb is a tenured Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Respirology at McMaster University. At St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, he is not only a staff respirologist, but the Research Director of the FIRH, where his work on interstitial lung diseases and pulmonary fibrosis has been internationally recognized.
Prior to Dr. Kolb’s career, patients diagnosed with these illnesses had no courses of treatment available to them—however, Dr. Kolb has pioneered innovative treatment options for these conditions, helping numerous patients breathe better.
“For over 25 years, Dr. Kolb has made extraordinary contributions to his field as a clinician-scientist,” said Dr. Lehana Thabane, Vice President, Research, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. “He has directly improved the lives of hundreds of individuals here at St. Joe’s, and it is an honour to see him elected to the Academy as a Fellow.”
