The Research Institute of St. Joe’s Hamilton has been named the Co-op Employer of the Year 2024 by the DeGroote School of Business.
The Research Institute’s administration team has employed several co-op students from McMaster University, including MBA students from the business school as well as other programs, such as the Master of Biomedical Innovation (MBI) program and various undergraduate programs.

McMaster University hosted a special awards ceremony to recognize the recipients of the employer co-op and intern awards for each faculty.
The Research Communications team and the Innovation & Partnerships team have both benefitted from the creativity, commitment, and work ethic of co-op students.
“These students bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a strong academic foundation,” said Sarah Howe, Chief Operating Officer. “Their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world communications and innovation challenges enhances our strategic efforts and supports our mission to support Health and Humanity for All.”

Nam Nguyen, who completed 2 co-op terms with the Research Communications team and 1 co-op term with the Innovation & Partnerships team, was also nominated for DeGroote Co-op Student of the Year. During his time working at St. Joe's, Nguyen worked on various projects including visual rebranding of several research spaces. He organized the poster competition during Learning Pillar Week 2024, where he introduced a digital scoring system that made tallying the judges' votes more efficient – a major benefit given the tight deadline as the winners are announced during a live event following the poster session.
The Research Institute congratulates all the employer and student award recipients and nominees at the first McMaster co-op and intern awards ceremony.
